The General Superintendent of Holy Spirit Mission Church, the Happy Family Chapel, Bishop Charles Ighele has said that there are
two major problems facing President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. Ighele in this interview with Daily Trust, advised President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) on how to handle the present economic challenges confronting the nation.
Read excerpts from the interview below:
Almost 17 months after, how would you assess the performance of the present government that came on the mantra of change?
I think there are two major problems facing this administration. One, interests combined to bring it into power.
We have the CPC, which Buhari headed, Tinubu’s party, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), ANPP (All Nigeria Peoples Party). Then (Rochas) Okorocha of Imo State, who left APGA and also came with his own people from the party and what they called the new PDP.
These interests formed the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is more of a coalition. But, disappointedly, the interests that gave birth to this coalition are not ready to agree among themselves on some major issues.
When you look at the history of political coalitions worldwide, the maturity of people that formed the coalition is tested by how they behave after they’ve won or lost election.
The CPC faction seems to be hijacking a lot of things. It produces most of the kitchen cabinet. The minister for justice was the CPC legal adviser.
The ACN faction is fighting for the position of the speaker and the Senate president. This is what I am not really happy about. I feel that the APC has the brains that can push the nation forward.

I have looked at some of their states like Lagos, when there are problems in Lagos State they always sit and put things in order. Also in Ogun state, they have learnt to be on top of the situation, more than other states.
Why can’t it be like that at the federal level?
It is because of the difference in interests. Let them think about the Nigerian project.
How do you think the president should manage the present economic challenges?
The president should take practical steps to find solutions. The president has focused his attention on fighting corruption and some people see the war as being selective, do you share this view?
The president should fight corruption and whatever is recovered should be pumped into the economy. Corruption must be fought to a standstill.
